I love to feel productive. So, I researched, planned, scheduled, and debated every little thing to create the “perfect” plan for my future.
Then, one of the following happened:
My priorities changed, life got in the way, and my precious plans were left alone.
Time passed, and at the time of execution, I had to revise my plans.
After a while, I got sick and tired of having all the plans but staying the same. I decided not to plan at all.
I just did things that moved me toward my goals. Any conversation that was not actionable right now, I skipped. Any information that was not actionable right now, I skipped. Basically anything that was not actionable right now, I skipped. Only when I was stuck, not knowing what to do, did I plan or research.
After four years of doing this and saving an enormous amount of time and energy, I present you my (actionable) rule of thumb for planning:

Bonus tips: If you have a lot of things to choose from, pick the one with the highest leverage.
